Getting Started
Of course it’s normal to feel nervous, anxious or embarrassed about starting a course of therapy, but counseling doesn’t have to be a big deal. Getting started can be as simple as sending me an email.
Therapy Reality
Here is the truth about therapy with me:
- I have a deep respect for my clients and the therapeutic relationship. I don’t judge anybody; there’s only room for growth.
- I am a professional — similar to a doctor — so I maintain confidentiality and ethics. That being said, counseling with me isn’t like a clinical medical visit. My office is a comfortable, safe setting that allows for open conversation.
- I have nearly fourteen years of experience working with a wide variety of people and issues, so nothing is new, scary or weird for me.
- I’m very easy going and laid back, which really helps people feel comfortable. I meet you where you are, and I follow you lead.
- I’m here to answer any questions you or your family may have, so initiating counseling with me is as straightforward and comfortable as possible.

- Therapy is lying on a couch with a box of tissues.
- Therapy is paying to complain to somebody who tells you you’re right.
- Therapy is only for people who are mentally ill or crazy.
- Therapy doesn’t work.
- Therapy is too expensive.
- Therapy is for people who are weak.
- Therapy is an enabler.
- Therapists just want to get you on medication.
